Christian marriage coach training online with Coach Tami of Christ Centered Coaches
The path to Christ Centered Coaches certification: CCC Eight Week Training, two more trainings, the Coaching Practicum, certified coach in about nine months

To become a Christian marriage coach, you need three things: a Christ-centered coaching framework, supervised practice with real couples' conversations, and a certification that trains you to hold space so Christ does the counseling. You do not need a degree or prior coaching experience to start.

I'm Coach Tami — a marriage and family therapist for 20 years and a professor for BYU-Idaho Online for 15 years. I've trained more than 200 saints to coach marriages with Christ at the center. Here's the honest step-by-step path.

Step 1: Understand What a Christian Marriage Coach Actually Does

A Christian marriage coach helps couples move from where they are to where Christ needs them to be. Unlike therapy, coaching is forward-focused: less excavating the past, more building the covenant in front of you.

And unlike secular coaching, a Christ-centered coach doesn't pretend to be the source of the change. In our training, the coach learns to Trust the Spirit, Hold Space, and Be Present — creating what we call Sacred Space, so Christ does the counseling. The client does 75% or more of the talking. Advice is 10% or less.

Communication and conflict-resolution skills matter — but they only get a couple about 20% of the way. The rest is the Christ-centered level.

Step 2: Learn a Real Framework (Not Just Good Intentions)

Feeling called is the beginning, not the qualification. Couples in pain need a coach with a method. In Christ Centered Coaches training, that method is:

  • The 3 C's: Conscious Observer → Christ → Choice. Notice what's happening without judgment, turn to Christ with "What does He want me to feel, know, and do right now?", then choose one committed action.

  • The A-B-C-D's of CCC: Assess, Breathe (4-4-6-2), Christ, Decisive Action — a session-ready tool for heated moments.

  • A proven session flow: prayer → confidentiality and credentials → follow-up → relaxation → objective → homework.

Step 3: Start With the CCC Eight Week Training

Every certified coach starts here. The CCC Eight Week Training is your introduction to our principles and framework: one pre-recorded lesson and video each week with a

workbook, about 3–5 hours a week, plus live trainings you're invited to — Coaches Corner on Tuesday nights and Coach the Coach on Mondays, with practice breakout rooms.

What do you take home from those eight weeks? The principles working in your own life first — you'll know how to use the 3 C's and the framework on yourself and in your own home. That personal transformation is the foundation everything else is built on.

No prior coaching experience is required. Most of our 200+ graduates started exactly where you are: called, willing, and untrained.

omplete the Full Path to Certification (About Nine Months)

Certification is a formation process, not a weekend event. After the Eight Week Training, coaches complete two additional trainings and then the Coaching Practicum — supervised coaching practice with real feedback. From first lesson to certified coach takes about nine months.

And you don't walk it alone. Our coaches stay inside a guild community that keeps meeting weekly — because the coach who keeps growing is the coach couples can trust. From certification, saints who want to go deeper continue to the full master certified coach path.

Step 5: Start Serving — And Let Christ Build the Practice

You don't need a perfect website or a big following to begin. Our first 200+ coaches came through referrals and word of mouth. Start with one couple. Serve them well. Go out and be a blessing — that's our motto, and it turns out to be the whole marketing plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a degree to become a Christian marriage coach?

No. Coaching is not therapy and does not require a therapy license or degree. What you need is real training, a Christ-centered framework, and supervised practice.

How long does Christian marriage coach certification take?

About nine months in total: the CCC Eight Week Training first (3–5 hours a week), then two additional trainings and the Coaching Practicum — supervised practice before you're certified.

Can I do the training online?

Yes. Lessons are pre-recorded and released weekly, and live trainings are held virtually, so you can train from anywhere.

What if I've never coached anyone before?

That's normal — no prior coaching experience is required. Practice breakout rooms are built into the live trainings so your first coached conversations happen inside the training, not on a paying couple.

How do I find out if this is right for me?

Text Coach Tami personally. Before you sign up, your questions go to her directly — and if you need it, she'll get on a phone call with you.
